In some ways, e-commerce sites can be a more straight forward approach than a service based or showcase website. After all, you will have probably already organised your product range, trading name and prices.
We still need supporting content to make your business and its message more accessible to new customers. Some content reflecting the history or story of how and why your business idea developed, a little about yourself if you offer a personalised product, a philosophy perhaps, something that adds personality to your site. You may want to impart a passion, belief or unique product or service. If you are entering a competitive market then this message is all the more important.
Then webal can reflect your message in the style, colour scheme and mood of the site.
The Nuts and Bolts
We will need the full information of your product range and then agree who is to add the products onto the site. The time taken to cover this stage varies depending on:
The number of products and product types ( do you offer 10 products with variations or 10's of thousands)
The information you have on each product (product descriptions, product codes (SKU), barcodes (EAN), prices) and the method in which it is currently stored (is it in printed catalogues or can we get spreadsheets from your suppliers)
If you 'make'; your product, do we have information on the constituents
Images - do you have your own product images (best) or access to a range of images form your suppliers (speeds the process) or have you yet to source images. Avoid using competitors images where possible, sometimes this is ok if they original was from a supplier, but those images may be subject to copyright. And we have seen this acted upon.
The point is to make your site more attractive, than your competitors' sites, to your audience. This is something that needs to be at the core of every decision we make towards the final build of your website.
Here at webal, once we have collected the information that we need to build the site, then we can arrange the structure of your e-commerce website. This will include product categories, manufacturers or brands, product types and this will from the basis of the navigation menu system for your e-commerce website.
Because we use a CMS to build the website, we can include, Galleries, Blogs, Youtube Videos, supporting Article content, social or community interaction, social media integration into the build. Don't worry too much about adding these from the very start if you have little or no content ready for them. It is better to add them when the time is right than to have sparsely populated pages just for the sake of it.
We will also integrate your e-commerce website with Google My Business, Analytics, Search Console, Google Structured Data (used to be called Rich Snippets) and even Google Reviews so that the circle of information is complete.
We may also need business specific information for compliance with various rules that govern aspects of your business such as registered office, points of contact, phone numbers, certain email addresses and VAT registration numbers.
